GPS & Maps is a versatile GPS app designed for navigation and outdoor activities such as geocaching, sailing, trekking, and biking. It provides accurate information on your position, height, and acceleration in various units of measurement, including feet, meters, miles, and kilometers. The app also records your highest altitude and speed.
With GPS & Maps, you can view and save your current position or other waypoints on a map. It offers multiple coordinate formats, including GPS Coordinates, Decimal Degrees, Degrees/Minutes/Seconds, UTM, and MGRS. This makes it particularly useful for geocachers, as it allows for easy switching between coordinates and map.
The app features an integrated flashlight, which enables users to locate targets even in dark environments without the need for a separate device. Additionally, GPS & Maps offers several in-app purchase options to unlock additional features.
The Premium Edition provides access to features such as Waypoints, which allows you to save your current location as a marker on the map. You can also add new locations, like geocaches, by entering GPS coordinates. Waypoints can be exported via email, and you can customize their appearance by selecting different colors. The app also offers Map Widgets that display your location, altitude, speed, address, and GPS accuracy directly on the map. You can adjust the widget transparency and text color for optimal readability on different map tiles and data sources.
Another feature available for purchase is the Compass, which shows your heading relative to magnetic north or true north, depending on your settings. It also displays your current location coordinates and additional information such as street, city, and country. If you buy both the Compass and Map Widgets, the Compass can also be displayed as a widget on the map.
GPS & Maps provides an option to enhance the map by incorporating additional data from Open Street Map or Google Maps. These additional maps can be utilized in various modes, including standard, satellite, hybrid, and terrain views.
Lastly, the app offers iCloud backup and restore functionality for added convenience. It is important to note that the accuracy of your position and acceleration depends on the strength of the GPS signal available. Compass and heading information are only available on devices equipped with a magnetometer.
