EPA's SunWise UV Index
Skin cancer is a common yet preventable type of cancer. The UV index offers a daily and hourly forecast of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation intensity, in addition to providing sun safety advice. While some sunlight exposure is enjoyable, excessive exposure can be harmful, leading to issues like sunburn, skin cancer, and cataracts in the long term. It is crucial for people of all skin types to shield themselves from overexposure to the sun. Incorporating UV Index checks into daily planning and taking sun protection measures such as wearing protective clothing, applying sunscreen with SPF-15+, wearing a hat, and using sunglasses are vital. The UV Index is collaboratively provided by the EPA, the National Weather Service, and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
