Note Quest: Sight Reading
Note Quest is a flashcard app that combines two different features into one. The app includes a timer and scoring system to respond to your playing. The app offers two simplified upgrades: Game Drills, which are scored exercises, and Sight Reading, which provides non-game exercises. Beginners can start with Landmark Notes, a free feature that can be a game-changer when learning to play the piano.
For users who are away from home, Note Quest includes a built-in virtual piano to ensure that they don't miss a beat. Users with access to a keyboard or piano class can use MIDI and headphones, which offers various options to improve sight reading speed and accuracy.
Note Quest also offers two available upgrades. The first is Game Drills, which can be purchased once and kept forever. This upgrade allows users to play a variety of single-note drills and interval drills, focusing on 2-note reading (intervals) as a pathway towards sight-reading fluency.
The second upgrade is Sight Reading, which requires a subscription. This upgrade offers curated, leveled exercises ranging from beginner to advanced. It includes a wide variety of musical periods and styles, rather than using boring, randomized notes. Users can check their accuracy by tapping the listen button, which also serves as a form of ear training. Consistent daily play unlocks fun, printable sheet music and activities. Sight Reading also includes Chord Crush, which teaches users how to read chord symbols while developing skills that can be used for a lifetime.
Additionally, Note Quest offers companion products for users who do not own an iPad. PDF Sight Reading Flashcards are available on their website. Any questions, issues, or suggestions can be addressed through the Help/Contact Us button inside the app. The founder and piano teacher, Grace L, always responds promptly. Users can also follow Note Quest on Instagram @notequest.
