Wayfinder
WAYFINDER is a generative art game that immerses users in a contemplative journey with nature. In this game, users navigate a mystical character through different natural landscapes, including forests, grasslands, and tundra. Along the way, they discover poetic tokens that, when activated, reveal hidden words in the wind, bringing life to the surrounding plants and animals. The character's presence triggers the growth of flowers, blooming of leaves, and the emergence of birds and butterflies.
As users progress, the uncovered words combine to form verse, expressing our inherent desire to capture the fleeting moments of nature through poetry. Each experience with WAYFINDER is unique and transitory, mirroring the ever-changing nature of the real world. The visuals of the game are procedurally assembled and delivered in real-time, while the lines of poetry are generated using a combination of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and generative processes, resulting in thousands of possible combinations. This makes WAYFINDER an ever-evolving and emergent artwork with infinite possibilities.
WAYFINDER blurs the boundaries between a video game, an animated short film, and an interactive poem. The project is a collaboration between the NFB (National Film Board) and artist/creative coder Matt DesLauriers. However, it's worth noting that there may be compatibility issues with older iPad devices that have been updated to OS 15.1.
