Scrible Extension
The Scrible Extension App is designed to be used with a Scrible account, which can be created for free on their website. Scrible is a research and writing platform that consolidates multiple tools into one place, making it easier to curate, annotate, cite, and write. The app integrates with Google Docs and Microsoft Word, making it convenient for writing. It is useful for anyone doing online research, but particularly beneficial for students, educators, and researchers.
The Scrible Extension App adds the Scrible Extension to the Safari Web browser. By clicking the extension button while reading or researching online, users can launch Scrible and access the Scrible Toolbar and Sidebar on the article. This allows for instant saving of webpages, PDFs, and database articles, as well as highlighting key facts, adding comments, and tagging articles for organization. If a user revisits a previously annotated webpage, the extension will automatically load their annotations, though this feature can be disabled/enabled.
Saved articles are stored in My Library within the Scrible account, where they can be browsed, sorted, filtered, and searched. Categorical tags can be used to organize the research. Users can also curate information into My Library by opening PDFs from their desktop or Google Drive, uploading PDFs and other documents, or adding bookmarks from their browser.
Scrible offers additional features for education. In the free Edu Plan, K12 students and educators can automatically capture citations, create bibliographies with one click, use text assistance and comprehension tools like read aloud, dictionary, and translation features, and easily share a set of texts through Class Libraries. Scrible also provides a word processor add-on for Google Docs and an add-in for Microsoft Word called Scrible Writer, which offers additional writing tools.
