The Files App, formerly known as Downloads Lite, is a feature-rich file management app for iOS devices. It includes a web browser that allows users to save documents and web pages for offline viewing, with a user experience similar to Mobile Safari. The app supports tabbed browsing, image downloading, full screen mode, and bookmark management. It also has a download manager with fast download speeds, resume support, and the ability to add arbitrary download links.
The file manager in the app provides a full screen Document viewer for various file formats, including PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, text files, HTML, and RTF files. Users can organize files in folders, search by file name, extract RAR archives, and unzip ZIP files. The app also allows importing photos from the camera roll.
Integration with Dropbox enables users to upload, download, and manage files, with the option to sync selected files on the device. The advanced PDF viewer supports large PDF files, allows text search, and enables jumping across the file through links. The photo viewer allows easy navigation between images, zooming in and out, and saving images to the device's photo album.
The app supports file transfer through HTTP, FTP, and iTunes USB File Sharing. Files can be transferred between the device and a computer on the same Wi-Fi network, and files can be sent as email attachments (limited to a size under 15MB). It also integrates with Mobile Safari, enabling users to open any link in the Files App using a bookmarklet.
The Files App offers multitasking capabilities, including background downloading. Inter-app document interchange allows other apps to save their files directly to Files App, such as email attachments.
In case of any issues with the browser, the app provides a Recovery Mode option in the iOS Settings app, which can be enabled to resolve pop-up alert loops.
