PlantNet

Pl@ntNet is an application designed to help users identify Plants by simply taking a photograph with their smartphone. This tool is especially useful for individuals who do not have access to a botanist.

In addition to its identification capabilities, Pl@ntNet serves as a citizen science project where the photos taken by users are collected and analyzed by scientists worldwide. This data helps to further understand the evolution and preservation of plant biodiversity.

The app can identify a wide variety of plants, including flowering plants, trees, grasses, ferns, cacti, and more. The more detailed and visual information provided in the photographs, the more accurate the identification will be.

While Pl@ntNet can also identify cultivated plants found in parks and gardens, its main focus is on wild plants. The application currently recognizes around 20,000 species, but continues to grow with contributions from experienced users.

Updates to Pl@ntNet in January 2019 introduced new features such as filtering recognized species, data revision based on user skills, re-identification of shared observations, and more. The web version of the app is also available for use. Users are encouraged to contribute their observations to help enrich the database and potentially have their photos featured in the application's species gallery.
