Symphony – Music Notation
Symphony is a professional notation app and notepad designed for musicians, composers, and students. It offers a wide range of features that allow users to create sheet music and orchestrations directly on their iPhone.
The app includes a Pencil tool that allows users to quickly add notes and chords to the canvas, with a multi-staff and multi-voice editor. Users can also take advantage of powerful editing features such as vertical drag to transpose notes and an On-Screen piano for fast composition.
Additionally, the Select tool enables users to highlight and modify notes, including changing duration, transposing, erasing, cutting, and pasting multiple tracks and bars.
Symphony provides over 100 acoustic instruments for live, low-latency, multi-track playback. Users can import existing Symphony/SP projects or MIDI/XML files to bring their music collection to life, with an interactive score display and small screen-optimized interface.
The app allows users to print scores with AirPrint or share them as PDF attachments, MIDI, MusicXML, or audio files to platforms like Dropbox and iCloud Drive.
Other features include the ability to write notes using touch, on-screen instruments, MIDI input devices, or even a QWERTY keyboard. The app also supports beautifully formatted chord charts and lead sheets using the Chord Symbol and Lyric tools.
Users can import MusicXML, MIDI, MXL, or Symphony files, and export their work as PDFs, MusicXML, MIDI, AAC, or Symphony files.
Symphony offers an intuitive score and document navigation experience, with support for up to 15 instruments, 45 staves, and 4 voices/layers per score. It also allows users to record MIDI in real-time using a click track and offers features like unlimited undo and redo.
The app supports customizable stem directions and note beaming, transposing instruments, concert pitch options, and the ability to change tempo or clef at any point in the score. Users can also stream audio or share their screen wirelessly with AirPlay.
Symphony provides advanced document management support and customizable part groupings for SATB and instrument families. Users can customize chord symbol, lyric, and annotation fonts, and loop playback between a selected region. The app also includes an auto-save feature.
