Music Theory Basics •
This text provides an overview of a Music theory program that covers various aspects of musicianship skills. The program includes modules on Notes (Notation / Piano), Key Signatures, Intervals, Chords, and Rhythms. It offers quizzes that test the user's knowledge and understanding of these concepts.
The program allows for customization, such as selecting the clef for pitched quizzes (Treble, Alto, Tenor, or Bass), setting interval and chord roots, and specifying the number of questions or grading only the number answered.
The Notes module focuses on music notation and piano keyboard knowledge. Key Signatures covers major and minor keys, with the option to set a maximum number of sharps or flats for the quiz.
In the Intervals module, users are tested on simple intervals played harmonically or melodically. The intervals covered include major, minor, diminished, augmented 2nds, 3rds, 6ths, 7ths, and diminished, perfect, and augmented 4ths, 5ths, and octaves. Users can choose to include or exclude diminished and augmented 2nds, 3rds, 6ths, and 7ths.
The Chords module includes triads and seventh chords played harmonically, melodically up, down, or broken. Triads consist of major, minor, diminished, and augmented chords. Seventh chords include dim7, min7(b5), min7, min(maj7), dominant7, maj7, dominant7(#5), and maj7(#5).
The Rhythms module focuses on testing rhythmic skills. Users can customize the options, including the number of measures (up to 16) and time signatures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4, or 5/4), the inclusion of specific note/rest values, and excluding grading durations (for percussionists). The available note/rest values include Whole, Half, Quarter, Eighth, Sixteenth, Dotted Half, Dotted Quarter, Dotted Eighth, Triplet Half, Triplet Quarter, and Triplet Eighth.
The program also includes a Grade Book that lists all saved results. The Grade Book is filterable by name and provides information such as the user's name, date and time of the quiz, relevant settings, and score (in both percentage and letter grade format). This information can be printed or sent to others.
