Channels for HDHomeRun!
Channels is an app that allows you to watch Live TV on your Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, using your HDHomeRun TV tuner. With Channels, you can play, pause, and rewind local or cable TV directly on your device. The app offers features such as pause, rewind, and fast forward live TV, guide data, full grid guide, full HD streaming, surround sound, closed captioning, voiceover support, channel favoriting, auto discovery, and the ability to browse other channels while watching TV. Channels also allows you to manage your HDHomeRun devices.
This app is highly recommended for cord cutters who are looking to watch live television on their streaming devices. It provides an easy way to watch live primetime TV, local news, sports, and other live events on your Apple TV. Additionally, Channels allows you to use one antenna to watch TV on all devices in your home, and lets you watch TV anywhere in your home.
To use Channels, you need an HDHomeRun networked TV tuner. Simply plug an HD antenna or your cable into the tuner, and connect it to your router. Then, use the Channels app to watch live TV. The app is compatible with modern iOS devices and requires 802.11AC wireless for HD streaming. However, please note that Channels does not support Picture in Picture mode on the iPad or AirPlay on any device, due to a video format limitation on the HDHomeRun tuners.
Channels supports all HDHomeRun devices, including HDHomeRun PRIME, EXTEND, EXPAND, CONNECT, CONNECT DUO, CONNECT QUATRO, DUAL, and ORIGINAL. The app does not currently support DRM protected streams and only works within your home network.
To get the most out of Channels, you can personalize it by selecting your favorite channels and viewing what's currently on those channels in the On Now tab. You can also tap on a channel to view more information about it, use live TV buffer for up to 90 minutes, and use swipe gestures to skip forward or backward. The Quick Guide allows you to see what else is on your favorite channels and easily switch to a different channel.
