Hikepack: Clever Hiking Maps
This text introduces Hikepack, an app designed for outdoor enthusiasts. Hikepack offers a variety of features such as satellite and topo maps, trails, elevations, route planning, and navigation. The app can be used offline with just one tap.
One of the key features of Hikepack is the ability to download trails, peaks, and attractions with topo and satellite imagery covering the entire map. Users can also plan their own custom routes along existing trail maps by dropping pins on the map. The app provides GPS navigation, displaying time, distance, elevation profiles, total ascent and descent, as well as calories burned. Additionally, while Hiking , users can see the remaining time, distance, and route to any map symbol or dropped pin.
Hikepack allows users to plan their trips by providing elevation profiles, trail stats, and the ability to see the altitude of any point on any route. While hiking, the app displays the remaining time and distance to any location and shows the user's location on the map.
The app intelligently extracts hiking, biking, and cross-country ski trails, as well as points of interest from OpenStreetMap data, providing a curated map focused on outdoor activities. The topographic and satellite map layers are created by Hikepack, covering the entire map. The app also allows users to save and compare their planned routes' elevation profiles and provides the ability to change the hiking speed used for estimating hiking time.
Hikepack offers various additional features such as a filter for points of interest, the ability to measure distances in a straight line between any points, and the option to download multiple maps for free offline use. Some features require a Pro Pass subscription.
The app currently covers all US national parks, US national forests, UK national parks, hiking areas in Finland, and the Carpathian mountains in Romania. Hikepack regularly publishes new maps and encourages users to suggest new maps or features.
Please note that satellite imagery is only available for selected maps in the US and Finland, while the topo layer is available for all maps. The maps are created by Hikepack from open data, and their copyright holders can be found on each map's details page.
